The unofficial results are in for the city and school board elections in Greene County.

According to the County Auditor’s Office, the City of Jefferson will have a new mayor. Unofficially, challenger Matt Gordon defeated incumbent Craig Berry 513 to 494 votes. Gordon described his reaction to being elected as the new mayor of Jefferson.

“It’s a relief. This has been a very, very, very close (race). I knew that it was going to be close coming into it. But (I) put a lot of hard work into it, and I’m so grateful for the people that got out and voted for me. I thank Mayor Craig Berry his time and his service to the community. I’m glad I’m going to be able to step up and take over the reins and do great things for Jefferson.”

As for Jefferson City Council, incumbents Dave Sloan and Matt Wetrich were re-elected with 652 and 613 votes respectively, to challenger Sean Sebourn’s 457 votes. Wetrich commented on his winning re-election bid.

“Wow (I’m) very excited about the news. It’s been such an honor to be on Council the last couple of years and see all the progress we have been making. I’m really excited to get to continue that on, and take steps to continue to move Jefferson very far forward.”

As for Grand Junction Mayor, a write-in candidate defeated the lone candidate on the ballot. Former mayor and write-in candidate Gerald Herrick defeated Pierre Kellogg 104 to 51 votes. Another write-in determined two of the three seats for Churdan City Council. Andrew Hamilton was the only candidate on the ballot and he received 34 votes. Write-in candidates Colton Morlan and Anthony Minnehan each unofficially got the other two seats with nine and eight respectively. The Auditor’s Office says there is one ballot outstanding.

Additionally, there was one contested race for the Greene County School Board. Incumbents prevailed with Steve Fisher and John McConnell defeating challenger Randy Lebeck.

There was a 23.55-percent voter turnout with 1,520 ballots cast of 6,454 registered voters. The results remain unofficial until the Greene County Board of Supervisors canvass the votes at the next regular meeting on Tuesday, November 12th. Click the link below to see the full results.
