Roads are improving, but bitterly cold temperatures and high winds remains throughout the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area.

According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, state roads in Greene, Dallas and Guthrie counties are either partially covered with snow or are back to seasonal driving conditions. Jefferson Public Works Director Dave Morlan tells Raccoon Valley Radio the snow ordinance is no longer in effect for residential streets. However the ordinance will be in effect for the downtown square from 2-6am Tuesday morning. During that time, no vehicles are allowed to park around the square as crews will finish clearing the snow.

According to the National Weather Service, Perry saw 2.7-inches of snow, while Jefferson and Guthrie Center each recorded two-inches. Wind gusts as high as 30-miles-per-hour will continue throughout the day, causing drifting snow along the roadways. Cold temperatures will also occur. The temperatures are expected to be around one-degree for our overnight lows tonight.

The one to count on for winter weather coverage is the Raccoon Valley Radio Network.
