There have been just two days of high school wrestling practice for the Greene County Rams. Head Coach Zach Beekman reports 30 kids are out, including a handful of girls.
The coach talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about the girls. “Last year they started their own girls’ division State Tournament. It’s still kind of governed by the same people, but they’re really trying to branch off and get girls wrestling other girls. Sometimes we get mixed feelings about girls and guys wrestling together and I think for our sport this is actually a really good opportunity. Any girls on our team, or any other team for that matter, they have a unique opportunity to go and wrestle in their State Tournament. That’ll be in Waverly the 24th and 25th of January. You’re an automatic State qualifier if you can stick out the season that long. I think that’s kind of a unique opportunity.”
