A local business has once again gone above and beyond during Raccoon Valley Radio’s annual Caring Christmas Food Drive, raising over $700 for their local food pantry.

Last Saturday morning, the Big Red Radio was at the Adel Fareway alongside sponsor Olson’s Body and Paint in Waukee. During the live broadcast, the repair shop representatives Dennis Olson and Sam Long promised to match up to $500 in cash donations. The result was $253 from the public, but Olson’s decided to round up a few hundred dollars by donating the full $500 to the local food pantry for a total of $753. Olson and Long then picked out items at Fareway, delivered three carts full of food, and presented a $500 check the Adel Good Samaritan food pantry.

Raccoon Valley Radio General Manager John McGee says partnerships like this help make the food drive very successful for everyone involved. “If we do get cash donations or the matching program that a lot of businesses are starting to do now, we do turn it into food right there working with that local grocery store. A lot of these grocery stores will give us a bit of a discount knowing that all that food is going right down to the food pantry. But it’s a good program, it’s a good win-win relationship. So it’s kind of a neat way that we’re all giving to make this happen.”
