The Perry Varsity Basketball teams dropped a boy-girl doubleheader Friday night to visiting Carlisle, getting shut down in the girls game 75-41 and losing close with the boys 41-33.
The match up came on the heels of victories by both squads Thursday night in Stuart against West Central Valley. On short rest, the Jayettes looked sluggish, only putting up eight points in the first quarter while allowing 20. It didn’t get much better in the second, with the Wildcats proving a tough defense to solve. Carlisle led at halftime 42-20. With senior Molly Lutmer sitting most of the third quarter in foul trouble, the lead only grew. When the clock hit zeroes, the Wildcats had earned themselves a 75-41 victory. Perry was led in points by freshman Lydia Olejniczak with 13, and Lutmer added 12. Carlisle senior Molly Hoekstra poured in 29 on the night.
In the boys game there wasn’t much scoring to speak of, as both defenses proved their mettle throughout the game. Perry managed just six points in the first, but also held Carlisle to 14. The Bluejays kept things close in the second quarter with some timely three point shots, and trailed 23-20 at halftime. The Wildcats got a sliver of breathing room in the third, with Perry senior Brendan Ivory on the bench with foul trouble, but they only led 33-28 heading into the fourth. Ivory would eventually foul out in the final frame, and Carlisle dribbled out the last minute of the quarter to hold on for a 41-33 victory. Ivory had 10 points in the loss, as did junior June Rey Reisberg.
The losses bring the Jayettes back to .500 at 3-3, and drops the Bluejays to 1-3. The teams will take the hardwood again Monday night for a boy-girl doubleheader at home against Ogden. The games will be broadcast live on AM 1310, FM 99.7 KDLS, with pregame starting at around 5:30 p.m.
