
Thursday, December 19th
3:12am: A caller advised of a car Alarm sounding near the Jefferson Municipal Swimming Pool. The officer did not hear the alarm in the area.
7:57am: An officer investigated a Two Vehicle Property Damage Accident in the 700 Block of South Chestnut Street. A 1988 Plymouth Grand Fury, owned by Jacob Thomas of Jefferson, was parked in the 700 Block of South Chestnut Street. Gabriel Schuttler of Jefferson was southbound on Chestnut Street and had obscured vision from frost on his vehicle windows. Schuttler struck the Thomas vehicle, causing damage to both units. The Thomas vehicle suffered a reported $2000.00 in damages, while the Thomas vehicle had a reported $1500.00 in damage. Schuttler was cited for, “Failure to Maintain Control.”
8:09am: An officer investigated a vehicle striking a parked vehicle at the GC High School, located at 100 Ram Drive. A 1988 Chevrolet C1500, owned by Amanda Burbank of Jefferson, was parked in the lot. A 2000 Ford Mustang owned by Daniel Owens and operated by Austin Owens, both of Jefferson, struck the parked Burbank vehicle while navigating the lot. The Owens vehicle suffered a reported $1500.00 in damages. The Burbank vehicle had a reported $1000.00 in damage. No citation was issued as the accident occurred outside of the roadway on private property.
12:59pm: Robert Dentlinger reported a Careless Driver on 220th Street, heading east towards Jefferson. The officers did not locate the reported vehicle.
4:44pm: Ben Jacobson reported trailers being parked on the street in the 200 Block of South Cedar Street, directly across the street form his private drive. The officer learned a construction company was doing a project in the area. He left the trailer’s owner a voice mail about the issue.
6:18pm: Amelia Kennedy reported her juvenile son had been caught by her with a vaping device. She provided the officer with the name of a 19-year-old Jefferson male who she believed had purchased the item for her son. The business is providing the officer with footage of the sale of the device and the investigation continues.
7:10pm: Pamela Mallory advised she had caught a stray kitten at 505 South Elm Street. The officer placed the kitten in the Animal Holding Facility.
7:44pm: An officer followed a vehicle with dark windows into the parking lot at 106 West Washington Street. The officer approached the vehicle to speak to the driver before they entered the business. During the interaction the officer smelled alcohol emitting from the driver. He noticed other signs of impairment and requested the driver to perform Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of Damon David Joseph Zimpel, 29 of MN. For, “OWI 1st Offense – Serious.”
9:11pm: An officer attempted to perform a Traffic Stop with a speeding vehicle in the 700 Block of North Elm Street. The vehicle did not yield and continued northbound on Elm Street at a high rate of speed. The vehicle did not stop at the posted stop sign at Elm and 220th Street as it turned and headed eastbound on 220th Street. The officer gave pursuit and speeds reached up to 96 mph as the vehicle continued eastbound. Another Jefferson officer and Greene and Boone county deputies headed towards the pursuit. The vehicle crossed the centerline and went onto the shoulder as the pursuit headed east on 220 th Street. The vehicle finally yielded and came to stop in Boone County on 220 th Street, between B and,C Avenues. The officer arrested Jordan Collins of Odebolt and charged him with, “OWI 1 st Offense – Serious, Eluding – Speed 25 or over – Aggravated, Driving While Suspended – Simple, Reckless Driving – Simple, Fail to Obey Stop Sign – Simple, Driving on Wrong Side of Two Way Highway – Simple, Fail to Provide Proof of Financial Liability – Simple, (2 Counts) Excessive Speed – Simple, Insufficient Number of Headlamps – Simple, and Operation without Owner’s Consent – Aggravated.”
