The holiday season can bring about increased stress for people.
Greene County Extension Director Lori Mannel says signs of stress include headaches, indigestion, poor concentration, weight loss or weight gain, indecisiveness and irritability. She points out everyone responds to stress differently, but describes ways to reduce stress, especially by being more aware of your eating habits.
“Plan ahead on your meals or snacks (and) choose healthier options and maybe portion out your food. Be mindful of your eating, so instead of just stuffing your face in front of the tv or wrapping presents, maybe sit down at the table and be mindful when you eat. Try to reduce your stress and negative emotions through other ways like exercising, just get out and get some fresh air. I hope you have a happy and safe holiday.”
Mannel adds, if you don’t reduce stress, it can cause health risks including cardiac issues and an increased risk of diabetes.
