Stuart residents tuning in to the 131st annual Tournament of Roses today can try to spot a local face on one of the parade floats.
Matt Clark, a Stuart volunteer firefighter and member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, has spent the last several days in Pasadena, California, helping decorate the IOOF’s float. Tying in with the parade’s theme of “The Power of Hope,” the IOOF’s float is titled “First Responders Bring Hope,” which depicts several professions including firefighters, paramedics, police officers, and more.
It’s been hard work for Clark helping decorate a float that includes carnations, coffee beans, walnuts, and other plant-based materials, but he says it’s worth it getting to represent the IOOF and first responders, “It’s a complete honor to come out here and be a part of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows but then in turn wear my Class A uniform that we got a month or two months ago. You know it’s the second time that I’ve worn it and the second time that I’m going to wear it I’m going to be on national television. That’s a complete honor to actually show off what we’re doing, how we look, and the pride that we have for our organization there in Stuart I mean, we have a lot of pride that’s why we wanted to get these Class A’s so we could look nice, so we could be proud.”
The Rose Parade begins at 10 a.m. central time, and more information on how to watch the broadcast can be found here. You can also hear more from Clark during today’s Let’s Talk Guthrie County program on air and at raccoonvalleyradio.com.
