Greene County traveled to Woodward on Tuesday night and swept a high school non-conference wrestling quadrangular to improve to 13-3 on the season. Coach Zach Beekman’s Rams started the evening with a 44-24 victory over Martensdale-St. Mary’s. Next was a 42-27 win over Nodaway Valley, and the night ended with a come-from-behind win over the host Hawks 42-39. The Rams trailed W-G 33-18 before four straight pints put Greene County up 42-33 with just one weight class remaining.
Four Greene County wrestlers went 3-0 on the night led by McKinley Robbins at 106 lbs. The freshman is ranked second or third in Class 2A, depending on the poll, and Robbins won twice by fall and once by forfeit to improve to 15-1 on the season. Senior Braden Gallagher (120) was 3-0 with two falls and a technical fall. Junior Brady Stauffer (138) had a pair of falls and a 9-8 win by decision for his 3-0 night, and junior Joe Davis (145) was 3-0 with two falls and a forfeit. Sophomore John Sprague won by fall in his only match.
Four other Rams went 2-1. They were senior Will Hansen (152), junior Sawyer Schiltz (220), and sophomores Brenner Gallagher (113) and Nathan Black (145).
A busy week continues tomorrow night with another non-conference quadrangular, this time in the middle school in Jefferson, vs. Audubon, Ogden, and Southeast Valley (Gowrie) starting at 5:30 p.m.
