A long-running state senator will not seek re-election this year.

District 24 Senator Jerry Behn is retiring after six terms in the Iowa Senate. He was first elected to the Senate in 1996. He is currently the Senate Pro Tem and serves on the Senate education, natural resources and environment, rules and administration, and ways and means committees and is vice-chair of the ethics committee.  

Behn previously served as a Boone County Supervisor from 1995-96 before winning election to the Iowa Senate. He graduated from United Community High School and has been farming for 47 years. He lives with his wife Dennise and they have four adult children, two daughters and two sons, and seven grandchildren.
