Emergency crews responded to a reported fire at the Casey’s General Store in DeSoto Thursday morning, and were able to quickly extinguish the source.

According to DeSoto Fire Chief John Booth, the trouble began when an electrical motor in the storage room of the store shorted out due to a power trip. The fire department was requested at 10:32 a.m., and when they arrived the worked quickly to put out the smoking motor. Booth says they turned the breakers off, vented the building of the smoke, and covered the machinery with wet rags to cool them off and prevent further ignition. The all clear was then given and the fire crews rolled out at 11:40. No one was injured, and there was no serious damage to the building or other equipment.

Casey’s corporate maintenance crews were dispatched and are now assessing the situation and planning the clean-up. The store will remain closed until given the okay by corporate, which could happen later today or early tomorrow. The Earlham Fire Department, Dallas County Sheriff’s Deputies, and Dallas County Emergency Medical Services also responded to the incident. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
