Iowa’s status as first-in-the-nation for presidential caucuses is under question after a new app implemented by the Iowa Democratic Party resulted in system failures Monday that delayed reporting results.

Iowa Democrat officials are still working to release all of the 1,765 precincts results, after “multiple reporting challenges” caused them to delay releasing results out of caution to review the incoming data, according to state chair Troy Price. U.S. Representative for Iowa’s 3rd District Cindy Axne (D) says she believes the last few days have shown how seriously Iowans take the caucus, “There was a glitch in the system but when folks identified the inconsistencies in the results they took a step back to double and triple check those results instead of releasing them to the public. I think that says the kind of people and the kind of voters we have in Iowa.”

Axne says she will do what she can to help Iowa continue its first-in-the-nation tradition. Democratic National Committee Chair Tom Perez released a statement saying what happened Monday night should never happen again, and the app owned by Shadow, Incorporated will not be used in Nevada or anywhere else during the primary election process.
