The Adel Partners Chamber of Commerce, Adel Parks and Recreation, and Raccoon Valley Bank are joining forces next week to celebrate a popular outdoor winter locale in town.
On Wednesday, February 19th, there will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony from 4-5 p.m. to officially christen the City’s ice skating rink. The rink is located at the Adel Stage and Pavilion on the corner of Main and 10th streets, and since January it has provided a free activity to the community. Adel Parks and Rec hosted ice skating last year with some success, using a liner purchased with the help of Adel Family Dentistry. This year the site blossomed further with the help of a full ice rink kit, complete with walls, which was provided by Raccoon Valley Bank.
Adel Parks and Rec Director Nick Schenck says the rink has been well-utilized since opening, and he’s excited to properly introduce the venue to the public at the ribbon-cutting. The rink can accommodate both recreational skating and hockey, though you must bring your own skates. There’s no strict hours and there’s lighting in the area for those that want to skate at night, but Schenck asks people to use good judgement. He also encourages people to share pictures of themselves enjoying the rink on the Adel Parks and Rec Facebook page.
