The Guthrie Center City Council increased their annual economic development contributions to the Main Street Guthrie Center and Guthrie Center Development Boards Monday.
They approved a $2,252 increase in addition to a $10,000 contribution for both organizations. The Council also approved a request from Windstream for an Iowa Department of Transportation application to install an aerial fiber optic cable from Union Cemetery across Highway 44 to Industrial Road.
City Administrator Laura Wolfe also updated the Council on notices she has sent to three local businesses who currently have temporary signage, which is against city code. The Council then held a public hearing and approved a resolution on the maximum property tax dollars for fiscal year 2021. Finally, the Council approved a resolution ratifying the authorization of a loan agreement and general obligation bonds not exceeding $800,000 and providing for the levy of taxes for their municipal bathhouse project. The bond was approved with 70.57% of the vote in last November’s election. Construction bid documents are expected to be presented to the Council on February 24th.
