The Adel City Council convened Tuesday evening in regular session.

The meeting began with a public hearing regarding the maximum property tax dollars levy for fiscal year 2020-21. There were no objections from the public, so later in the meeting the Council approved a related resolution. Mayor Jim Peters then gave a proclamation for February 13th to be Honey Bee Day in the City. The Council also received updates on the process to sell land in Kinnick Feller Park to Restoration Harmony, and the proposed changes to Dallas County’s storm siren activation protocol. Next, the Council had discussion on a funding request from Heart of Iowa Regional Transit Authority (HIRTA) for the upcoming fiscal year. The Council took no action during the meeting, but will consider approval at their meeting in March. They also set a public hearing on the City’s 2020-21 budget for March 10 at 6 p.m.

Following that, the Council had discussion but no action on the draft for an all-terrain vehicle ordinance, and will have City Attorney Kristine Stone research some questions. Finally, the Council approved a resolution to indefinitely suspend camping services at Island Park, at the recommendation of the Parks and Recreation Board. The closure was related to not having a dedicated site manager and damage caused by flooding.
