Wednesday afternoon, members of the Perry School District joined representatives from the architecture firm Unesco and contractors from Sand Construction to hold a special ceremony to memorialize the ongoing facility project.
Perry Superintendent Clark Wicks, High School Principal Dan Marburger, Assistant Principal Brad Snowgren, and School Board President Kyle Baxter were among those who took part in “Signing the Beam.” Wicks got the ceremony started by giving a speech about the excitement and pride people have in the project, and then each individual signed their name to a steel beam. The beam was then placed on the north side of the shell that will be the new wrestling/multipurpose room at the school.
Wicks said it was a unique event to be part of, and he felt it was especially significant as the new building starts to take shape. “You know what? It’s a cool ceremony! I haven’t been part of that before, so we got a chance to sign our name on that beam. And hey, it really is a neat moment (and) it shows that things are progressing. Especially signing on a steel beam, it shows strength, it shows progress, and it’s really a cool thing for Perry Community Schools. We’re tickled!”
The industrial technology facility and wrestling room project is expected to be completed by the start of the 2020-21 school year.
