For the first time since the 2017-18 basketball season, a Greene County varsity girls’ team won a game from someone other than Saydel (Des Moines). Coach Tyler Westhoff’s Rams were 56-51 winners Saturday night in Gowrie over Southeast Valley in the first round of postseason play in Class 3A District 3. The Rams improve to 3-19 while the Jaguars end at 8-14. The contest was heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.

Greene County more than doubled its season scoring average of 23 points a game by making 17 of 19 free throw attempts, hitting seven three-point shots, and ending with an overall shooting percentage of 42%, nearly double their regular output.

SEV made eight three’s, but went two of 16 in the final quarter when the Rams were three of seven from the floor and 13 of 14 from the foul line. Greene County had 26 turnovers to 19 for SEV.

The best balance in scoring this season for the Rams helped them score a season high. Brianna Osterson had 14 points with 13 by Sadie Wilson, 12 by Izzy Bravard, and 10 for Brianna Habben. Bravard is the leading scorer on the team at nine points per game.

Next up is third ranked Roland-Story in Story City on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Norsemen own 76-11 and 70-9 victories this season over the Rams. Wednesday game can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
