The bid opening date for the municipal bathhouse project was set by the Guthrie Center City Council Monday.

Shawn O’Shea of MSA Professional Services gave an update to the Council on where they are in the project schedule since an $800,000 bond referendum was passed by City voters in last November’s election. O’Shea said he plans on advertising for the contractor bid letting online and in local newspapers by March 5th. The Council then approved setting April 8th at 2 p.m. as the deadline for bids to be submitted and then opened at City Hall. They also set April 13th at 6:30 p.m. to hold a public hearing on the plans, specifications, and opinion of cost, and to review bids and potentially award the project.

O’Shea said he hopes the April deadline will bring in a good set of competitive bids, and the date is early enough that they could let the project out for bid again if necessary. He has also outlined May 11th as the date for the City to sign the construction contract, and the City would then demolish the current bathhouse at the municipal pool in mid August. Construction would begin in September, with substantial completion set for mid April of 2021. The Council also approved a payment of $5,500 to MSA for the bidding phase.
