At their February regular meeting, the Perry School Board approved the instructional and extracurricular activity fees for the 2020-21 school year. While for the most part the fees remain the same, there are a couple notable exceptions.
First is the cost for driver’s education, which is operated through the outside company Street Smarts. The regular fee has been raised from $335 to $350, while those who qualify for the reduced fee will pay $85, up from $81. Superintendent Clark Wicks explains the increase is mostly out of the District’s hands, but he feels it shouldn’t be too difficult for families to adjust. “We contract that out, so the company decides what the rate is and we either have to go with that rate or we look elsewhere. And we know that there’s very few driver ed companies out there. So we’ve checked other schools, and it’s reasonable.”
The other fee change from this year to next is a decrease. The Board approved lowering the admission price for the annual spring musical from $8 to $5 for students and senior citizens, and from $10 to $8 for adults. Wicks says the idea was to improve the affordability for the productions, which should increase attendance.
