New information has been released regarding an overnight fire at Scranton Manufacturing.

Greene County Dispatch confirmed to Raccoon Valley Radio that Jefferson, Scranton, Carroll and Glidden-Ralston fire departments, along with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office and Greene County Ambulance responded to a fire at Scranton Manufacturing at 11:23pm. Black Hills Energy and Alliant Energy were also called to the scene to shut off power.

Scranton Fire Chief Doug Duff told Raccoon Valley Radio when they arrived on scene, flames were seen shooting out of the main building. Duff said the fire started in the paint room where employees were painting, noticed the fire and called emergency crews. Duff said the fire spread from the paint room to the storage area where paint and paint thinner was kept. He noted, they could hear explosions coming from the storage building, due to the paint and paint thinners.

When the flames were extinguished, Duff said there was extensive damage to the west side of the building, and some garbage trucks that were inside were also damaged. Additionally, there was smoke and heat damage throughout the building. No one was hurt in the incident. Duff added, due to the amount of damage, the State Fire Marshall’s Office will be involved in the investigation. Crews were on scene for about four hours.

Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
