As the Iowa legislature has moved through its first funnel week of the 2020 session, constituents in House District 20 and Senate District 10 can speak with their lawmakers on what’s currently being debated at an event tomorrow.

The Guthrie County Republicans are hosting their second and final Legislative Coffee this year from 8-9 a.m. at the Farm Bureau office in Guthrie Center. State Representative Ray Sorensen (R) and Senator Jake Chapman (R) will be in attendance to answer questions from the public.

Sorensen, who serves on the appropriations, commerce, state government, and veterans affairs committees, gives this advice when it comes to following matters at the state capitol, “Don’t lose hope if your idea or bill didn’t make it, if it’s something that you need to take, rework, contact us. Make sure that you’re reaching out and see you know why did it fail, why didn’t it make it past the funnel or whatever hurdle it didn’t clear and try and work on that and keep going. And for those that have made it, those things can change, they can get amendments attached to them and that can change positions on bills. So it’s a very fluid process and just you know keep good tabs on it, make sure you’re properly informing yourself.”

You can hear more from Sorensen and Chapman during Monday’s Let’s Talk Guthrie County program throughout the legislative session. The representative will also be having a public legislative update event on April 4th at 8 a.m. at Panora Telco.
