Last week when the Iowa High School Athletic Association released its 2020 football schedules, Greene County was one of the teams with five of the nine games at home. Of the four road trips, only Oct. 9 at Red Oak and Oct. 23 at Shenandoah are longer than 30 minutes from Jefferson.

The Rams went to Shenandoah last year and head coach Caden Duncan explains why long trips like that sometimes occur in back-to-back years. “Last year was the second year of a two-year rotation, so this is a brand new schedule this year. The State has some issues they are looking at, so this district alignment is for just one year instead of the usual two. There’s no guarantee teams with only four home games this year will get five home games next year.”

The Rams had five home games last year, but did go to Shenandoah in 2019, and it just worked out that way because this is a new district year, although Greene County stays in Class 2A District 9.

The season is set to open on August 28 in Perry.
