In response to Governor Kim Reynolds’ continuation of the statewide emergency public health declaration due to the COVID-19 pandemic, schools across Iowa indicated they will remain closed through at least the end of April.
The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn School District announced that very intention the day the proclamation was approved, and the administration has been working ever since on lessening the impact of not being in school on the community. Superintendent Greg Dufoe says ADM has been providing voluntary educational opportunities through their learning resources website since the hiatus began on March 23rd. With the announcement that school will remain closed through April 30th, Dufoe says the District will provide parents and students with new and more structured voluntary learning programs starting today.
ADM will continue to explore and evaluate state guidance related to implementing required educational services, though Dufoe points out there are a variety of challenges that make it difficult to go that direction. He emphasizes that the District will continue to follow the leadership of the Department of Education and Governor’s Office as they navigate the coronavirus situation.
