The Greene County Auditor’s Office is informing the public about changes being made ahead of the June 2nd primary election.

The Secretary of State’s Office is planning to mail absentee ballot requests to all eligible, active voters later this month. It is the intent of Secretary of State Paul Pate to have Iowans vote in the primary election by absentee and not in-person to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Pate has also given counties several choices of how to handle in-person voting.

According to the Greene County Auditor’s Office, in-person absentee voting will take place starting May 4th in the east lobby of the Greene County Courthouse. Voters are to use the east entry door or by curbside, as the courthouse continues to be closed to the public until further notice. Additionally, as of Friday, Deputy Auditor Billie Hoskins says the seven precinct locations in the county will be reduced to two for primary election day. There will be one polling location for Jefferson voters at the Greene County Middle School gym and another for all other precincts at Clover Hall on the Greene County Fairgrounds.

The Auditor’s Office says anyone who fills out an absentee ballot request will have a ballot mailed starting April 24th. Absentee ballots can be mailed to the Auditor’s Office or submitted via the dropbox near the east entrance. Anyone with questions can contact the Auditor’s Office at 515-386-5680.
