A period of no school and no school-related activities, including no athletics, continues in Iowa due to COVID-19. Something that is continuing is construction of the new Greene County High School and Iowa Central Community College Career Academy on the northwest side of Jefferson.

Greene County Activities Director Todd Gordon gave Raccoon Valley Radio an update on the progress of the gymnasium. “They have poured the concrete in the gym. That concrete flooring is down and taking shape. Now, it’s just a matter of getting things in there, and it’s going to be exciting time watching the progress. The good thing is the stoppage in our work is not stopping them out there, and they’re inside, for the most part, and getting things done. It’s kind of exciting to see week by week, month by month, what they’re able to accomplish.”

Gordon is a veteran A.D., but this is the first time he’s worked at a school while a new high school is being constructed. Progress is reported to be on schedule, which means the new high school and career academy are set to open this August, in time for the start of the 2020-21 school year.
