The Raccoon Valley Radio listening area will be seeing some colder temperatures for the majority of next week.
According to the National Weather Service, daytime highs for west central Iowa will be in the mid to low 40s from Sunday through Thursday and the overnight lows will be in the 20s. Average normal daytime highs for April is the mid 50s to upper 60s and the overnight lows are typically in the 30s. Weatherology Meteorologist Emily Chipman explains that a cold front is coming down from Canada and the Dakotas, which will then head for the Midwest region.
“Then it’s going to kind of create a low pressure system that’s going to kind of move off to the Northeast (region). This whole big whole trough of low pressure area, this is just kind of funneling in this colder air, especially those colder winds coming out of the north-northwest, so it’s really ushering in that colder air from Canada, so that’s helping to contribute to this cold cell for next week.”
However, in spite of colder temperatures on the way, Chipman says there is no real threat of severe weather to be aware of.
