A Carroll man was recently sentenced to prison for a drunk driving incident in Jefferson.

According to court documents, 31-year-old Sylvester Trotter pled guilty to a Class D Felony for his third or subsequent offense for OWI. Trotter was sentenced to no more than five years in prison at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center in Oakdale, and was given credit for time already served.

The charge stemmed from an incident on March 23, 2019. A Jefferson Police Officer responded to the call of an erratic driver that was heading west into Jefferson on Highway 30 around 7pm. The officer found the vehicle that matched the description and license plate when the vehicle was parked in a parking lot in the 600 block of East Highway 30. The officer saw Trotter outside of the vehicle and noticed signs of intoxication and an open container of alcohol was inside the vehicle. 

Trotter was also ordered to pay over $2,000 in fines and surcharges.
