Budget amendments for the Attorney’s and Sheriff’s offices, as well as Transfer Station and Secondary Roads Department were discussed at the recent Guthrie County Board of Supervisors meeting.
County Attorney Brenna Bird didn’t bring an exact requested number for the Board to consider, but suggested that they may need to amend the District Court budget with a $10-20,000 cushion in case they see increased expenses for juvenile cases. Sheriff Marty Arganbright’s budget suggested an increase of $137,091, as he said they’ve used 12 percent of their budget each month, and have 14.56 percent left of the current fiscal year. The budget increases were accounted for going $14,000 over their original $10,000 budgeted for part-time deputies, as two of the office’s deputies are still on leave since the Stuart shooting incident last October. The line item for housing inmates out of the County also went from $10,000 to $53,000, food increased by $21,000, and inmates’ medical expenses have also doubled, though inmates are usually expected to pay off those bills.
For secondary roads, County Engineer Josh Sebern proposed that they adjust the budget to pay for 125,000 tons of gravel now, citing uncertainties with the state’s gas tax due to COVID-19. No action was taken regarding these budget proposals.
