The Greene County high school baseball & softball teams begin practice this Monday with the first games of the abbreviated season set for June 15. Tom Kennedy is the veteran softball head coach of the Rams, while Matt Paulsen is in his first season as head baseball coach.
Kennedy tells about a major softball rules change he believes will benefit pitchers. “It used to be the pitcher had to have both feet in contact with the rubber. Now, they can step behind the rubber as much as they want to, really, as long as they’re within the width of the rubber. Pitchers can now start with the back foot off (the pitching plate) or take a step backwards, then go forward. Once they start going forward they have to continue going forward.”
The coach added, “It’s one of the few things they’ve done lately for pitching. They can create a little more momentum with this move and it should help pitchers.”
KG98 has a 10-game regular season broadcast schedule planned this season with five Ram softball and five Ram baseball broadcasts on the docket.
