A state road construction project began recently, and it will disrupt traffic through Adel for the next few weeks.
The Iowa Department of Transportation is working on a reconstruction project for highways 169 and 6, which is expected to wrap up by June 18th. The work on 169 starts at the second crossing of the Raccoon River on the north side of Adel, and extends south to Meadow Road. Additionally, the section of Highway 6 between the Raccoon River crossing and Highway 169 is affected by the construction. Through traffic is still allowed on the highways, but the public is alerted there are alternating lane closures for the entirety of the affected sections. Flaggers are in place from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. on weekdays and Saturdays, and a pilot car is in operation. There is also a width limit of 16-feet in effect, so oversized loads should find an alternate route through Adel.
The DOT apologizes for any inconvenience to motorists, and asks for the public’s patience as the construction progresses. Anyone with questions is encouraged to contact the Iowa DOT by calling 511 or 1-800-288-1047, or by clicking the link below to visit their website.
