Walking path on East Lincoln Way looking east from trailhead
The City of Jefferson will see construction of four shared-use path projects soon.
The City Council approved at their May 12th meeting a bid of $877,039 to Caliber Concrete of Adair to create three new walking and improve one existing trail. City Administrator Mike Palmer says the projects include an eight-foot concrete path from the Raccoon River Valley Trailhead to the City Cemetery on the south side of East Lincoln Way, a ten-foot concrete path south of Ram Drive, down Grauer Avenue to Greenewood Avenue, a ten-foot concrete improvement to the Daubendiek Park trail and an eight-foot concrete path from West Central Avenue from Highway 4 to the west side of Walnut Avenue to the new Greene County High School.
Palmer points out the path to the new high school is of the highest priority.

“It’s not just for the school, but we’ve been projecting more residential growth out in that area. It will also provide the means of tying in additional trails. We’re hoping that when the school brings their trail up to meet ours it can also help access as far up as the casino by putting in a little spur in and tying into Doreen Wilbur Drive.”
Payment for the projects is coming from the $2.4 million bond issuance approved by the Council last year. Palmer notes they saved money on the projects by combining them into one bid, rather than bidding them separately. He anticipates work starting later this summer.
