The 2020 Perry farmers market season was supposed to begin at the end of May but was postponed until the first week in July due to COVID-19 concerns, and now the much anticipated start of the popular summer program is imminent.

The market will once again be operated by the Perry Chamber of Commerce, and will be held Thursdays from 4-7 p.m. in Josh Davis Plaza and along 2nd Street. Chamber Director Lynsi Pasutti says the events will look a little different this year than in the past, starting with not having any special themed markets on the schedule. She says for the time being they’re also limiting vendors to produce and baked goods, so the usual craft and information providers will not be in attendance at least to start.

In spite of that, Pasuitti feels it will be a good season for the public and vendors, and she promises protective measures will be in place for as long as needed. “I think we’re going to see a strong farmers market the rest of the summer, just because it’s been growing over the years (and) people always look forward to that fresh produce. It is outdoors so it is a bit safer than an indoor market, and we can do different things so that everyone stays safe by spacing people out, encouraging the use of face masks, and things like that.”
