For a volunteer-based organization that seeks to promote its downtown district and cultivate community involvement, Main Street Guthrie Center has had several events cancelled so far this year because of COVID-19.
The organization had events planned almost monthly for 2020, and so far have had to postpone its Celebrate Guthrie Center dinner that was scheduled in March, a wine walk event in May, fundraiser dinners, and the summer outdoor movie series. If local conditions for the pandemic improve by this fall, Main Street Guthrie Center Director Dana Buster says they hope to hold their annual events around the fall and winter holidays. Buster says these events and community projects aren’t possible without local residents’ support, “Obviously, we’re always accepting financial donations but we’re also always looking for volunteers to help out and even from home I’m sure we can come up with some things that you can help us with around here. And also just helping to promote shopping local, sharing our local stores with their specials in addition to our restaurants with what they have for specials and if people are having to change their hours.”
Buster adds that the organization is excited to assist the Guthrie Center and Panora chambers of commerce for a joint sidewalk sale event they will be holding on August 14th and 15th. You can hear more about what’s going on for Main Street Guthrie Center during a two-part Let’s Talk Guthrie County program beginning today on air and at raccoonvalleyradio.com.
