The former Bagley Firefighter’s Association President and Treasurer recently pleaded guilty to first degree theft for improper use of Association funds.

Court documents show that 31-year-old Matthew Todd Sutherland has been given a deferred judgment for the class C felony, and has been placed on five years probation. One count of ongoing criminal conduct, a class B felony, was dismissed in the case. Sutherland is ordered to pay a $1,000 civil penalty, as well as about $38,314 in victim pecuniary damages, and pay all category B restitution costs. Sutherland was arrested on January 5th, following an investigation by the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office which began in August of 2018, and a state audit report released in June of 2019 that found over $16,000 in improper disbursements and undeposited collections.
