With drought conditions continuing in west central Iowa, Greene County ISU Extension is helping to host a special meeting about that in Jefferson.
A drought meeting will be held at 9:30am Friday in the grandstands of the Greene County Fairgrounds. Topics that will be covered include crop growth and development during the drought, drought damaged crops, drought silage and crop insurance options. Greene County Extension Director Lori Mannel describes an additional service that ISU Extension will do before the meeting.
“If you want to show up early – about 45 minutes before the meeting – if a producer wants to bring corn stalk samples and they’ll do a quick nitrate assessment. That’ll be done right there on the site.”
There will be three presenters, including ISU Extension Field Agronomist Mike Witt, Farm Management Specialist Tim Christensen and Beef Specialist Erica Lundy. There is no cost to attend, but registration is encouraged. Call the Extension Office in Jefferson at 515-386-2138 or stop by to sign up.
