Greene County High School head cross-country coach Jeff Lamoureux talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about restrictions and guidelines for the sport because of COVID-19. “The guidelines for cross-country aren’t as extensive as some of the other sports because of the nature of it. You’re outdoors, you’re running, and besides the start, kids tend to social distance as they spread out over the course.”
The coach noted some precautions that are being taken. “We practice in pods of not more than 10 people, so I don’t send everyone out all at once together in one group. Once the season starts, we’ll all be required to wear face masks on the bus because we won’t be able to properly social distance while riding the bus. There will be no sharing of water bottles, no hugs or high-fives, things like that to keep educating the kids on.”
The coach added he’s appreciative of having a season and giving the runners the opportunity to compete.
