Greene Co Public Health Director Becky Wolf, standing left, presenting mask recommendation resolution

Earlier this week, the Greene County Board of Health made a recommendation to the County Board of Supervisors to strongly urge everyone to wear a mask to prevent further spreading COVID-19.

Greene County Public Health Director Becky Wolf explains why the Board of Health took the step of proposing a county-wide mask recommendation to the Supervisors.

“Recommending a resolution to the Board of Supervisors urging that all residents wear a face mask demonstrates the critical impact that face mask wearing can have to reduce the spread, especially as our kids prepare to return to school in a few short weeks.”

Wolf notes Greene County is not alone in this type of recommendation. Lots of other health entities across the state have made the same type of suggestion, even some requiring masks.

“Our Greene County Board of Health is very mindful of knowing that they are responsible for ensuring the health and wellbeing of our communities. Especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, they have been extremely supportive of all of our efforts with Greene County Public Health, and have helped us whenever they can.”

Wolf adds, the Board of Health wanted to take the “urging” approach to wearing a mask instead of “requiring” as a way for more people to do the practice instead of forcing them to do it. The Supervisors didn’t take action on the resolution this past Monday at their meeting, but may consider it at a future meeting.
