About 80 people attended a fundraiser for an Iowa House candidate at the Grand Junction Community Center Thursday night.

It was a fundraiser event for Iowa House District 47 Representative Phil Thompson who is seeking re-election in November. The speakers that were in support of Thompson included Iowa Senate District 24 candidate Jesse Green, former Iowa House of Representative David Tjepkes, Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig and Lieutenant Governor Adam Gregg. Gregg talked about a key piece of legislation he wants to work with Thompson during the next legislative session if he is re-elected is providing rural emergency medical services.

Lieutenant Governor Adam Gregg

“We all expect that if something horrible happens and we need to call 911 that someone is going to come and they’re going to come fast. But that’s not the case in every rural community (and) in some cases when you call 911 an ambulance isn’t coming for 40 minutes. We can’t let that happen. This is one of the basic government services that we expect. This is something that Phil is passionate about and I look forward to working with you in the next legislative session on that.”

Following the program, Thompson gave his reaction to the support that he received.

“I’m really humbled to be among so many friends and family, and have such great support from both Greene and Boone counties. It’s just really a humbling experience to be in a room with so many great people.”

Thompson’s challenger in the November general election is Democrat candidate Shelly Stott from Boone.
