About 20 people braved the wet and cold weather for a 9/11 remembrance ceremony at the Freedom Rock in Jefferson Friday.
Jefferson resident Sean Sebourn emceed the event and read part of former President George Bush’s speech that he made in New York City following the tragic events of when the Twin Towers fell on September 11, 2001.
“I can hear you, the rest of the world hears you, and the people. The people who knocked these buildings down will hear all of us soon. The nation sends its love and compassion to everybody here who is here, thank you for your hard work, thank you for making the nation proud. God bless America.”
Then local pastor Tom Hinote said a prayer remembering those who lost their lives from the events on 9/11.

“(I want to) say thank you for preserving us. Thank you for preserving this nation. God I thank you for those that ran into that building instead of running away from it. I thank you God for those who – to this very day – continue to do the same.”
The program closed with a moment of silence, followed by local musician Wayne Lautner playing Taps and the sounding of sirens from several Greene County First Responder vehicles.
