With so much being canceled this year due to the pandemic, one small Greene County town is planning something big next year.

The City of Rippey will be hosting a few Mid-Iowa Baseball League games during the 2021 summer season. To get to this point, the local ball field has undergone some improvements and upgrades. Rippey residents Mel Murken and Merle Jackson scraped and painted the original wooden bleachers. Other work includes installing batting helmet racks and pvc pipe holders for bats. The rafters for the dugouts were also replaced and soon will be given a fresh coat of paint.

Funding for the improvements were from a Greene County Community Foundation grant, along with matching funds from the Friends of Rippey.

Murken wanted to bring Mid-Iowa to town this year, but the pandemic forced them to delay until next year. Work that is left to do is restoring the public address system and scoreboard.
