The Greene County School Board met Wednesday night in regular session.

During open forum, the Board discussed the mask matrix and moving from back-and-forth between green, yellow and red levels. It was also mentioned that if a student was recommended to be quarantined, that student would automatically do remote learning. 

The Board then set a public hearing date for the October 21st meeting about the possible demolition of the former middle school gym, along with directing Superintendent Tim Christensen to get bids for the demolition, and asbestos and lead removal. The Board also approved the 2019-2020 treasurer’s report as presented, and accepted the 2019-2020 certified report, along with the transportation and special education supplemental reports as presented. The Board then approved two School Board Review Committee requests for allowable growth funds for the special education deficit expense of over $717,000 and excess to $51,514 of expenses for the Limited English Proficient program for the 2019-2020 school year.

Additionally, the Board appointed Dr. Steve Karber as the delegate to the Iowa Association of School Board Convention, the 28E agreements with Grandwood Consortium and Woodward Academy programs as presented, one fundraiser request, and purchasing two wrestling mats for $28,000 for the middle school wrestling practice room. The Board also approved change orders for the vocal room and wrestling room at the middle school as presented, along with the Board’s six goals for the current school year were also approved.

Finally, during the superintendent’s report, Christensen mentioned there would be no school for high school students on September 25th so that teachers could do training on remote learning. Then on October 9th and 23rd, school would be dismissed before noon countywide so that all teachers could do additional training for remote learning.
