Heads up for motorists on south U.S. Highway 4 in Jefferson, temporary stop signs will be controlling the intersection next to the newly renovated Greene County Middle School.
Jefferson Police Chief Mark Clouse says the stop signs will be at the intersection of Highway 4 and Ram Drive from 7:30-8:30am and 3-4pm each school day. Clouse tells Raccoon Valley Radio it was a safety concern for students crossing the intersection. The stop signs will then be removed after those designated times.
Clouse reminds motorists of the changes in the kinds of traffic that portion of the town will experience since the school building has transitioned from being a high school to a middle school.
“The biggest change that we’re going to see there is what used to be vehicle traffic from high school students is now going to turn into mobile traffic from kids walking and riding bikes. I think we’re going to see a real increase in foot traffic and those things out at that intersection.”
Clouse hopes everyone remains safe during the school year and motorists are aware of the increasing amount of kids in the mornings and afternoons.
