The Black Lives Matter protest continued for a 16th week at the Greene County Courthouse in Jefferson.
The movement started June 9th, following the death of George Floyd while in the custody of a former Minneapolis Police Officer. The rally was only cancelled one time, following the derecho storm from last month. Ginny Showman is one of the participants and gave an update on the newly established group called, “Good Trouble.” She said they are putting together coalitions to figure out ways to increase the county’s population and bring in diversity as well.
The protest participants also discussed doing an anti-racism panel to further explore what it means to be anti-racist. The group then marched around the courthouse carrying signs for racial inequality. The weekly protests will continue on Tuesdays at 12:15pm on the south lawn of the courthouse.
