A new veterinary clinic is opening soon in Jefferson.

Dr. Christy Fields is the owner of Companion Veterinary Clinic of Greene County, located at the former Jefferson Veterinary Clinic at 210 South Wilson Avenue. She talks about how she decided on the name of the business.

“Companion Veterinary Clinic was named ‘Companion’ because that’s what we consider most dogs and cats as part of the family. So really (the) companions to people, not just (consider them) as pets. But I also wanted to add ‘Greene County’ in there so that people would understand that we serve more than just Jefferson.”

Dr. Fields is originally from Ohio and received a bachelor’s degree in biology from Siena Heights University in Michigan. She then earned her doctorate of veterinary medicine degree from Iowa State University. Her veterinary medicine career began in Pella at the Tri-County Vet Clinic, and then she moved to Davenport, where she worked at the Kimberly Pines Vet Hospital. She is currently working at the Lake City Vet Clinic, where she will continue to work, even after her practice opens in Jefferson. She describes why she wanted to open her own business.

“I really enjoyed the management part of it. I didn’t think that I would at first, (but) I do miss that. Opening a clinic in Jefferson will allow me to not only help the community, and do what I love, but also I can get back into the management part of my job and running a business.”

There will be an open house from 8am-noon this Saturday. Attendees will receive free goodie bags and will be entered into several drawings for services and other prizes. Companion will be open Mondays and Fridays from 8am-5pm and Wednesdays from 2-7pm. You can call 515-386-2888 to schedule an appointment.
