Fire crews responded to a corn field fire Friday afternoon in Greene County.

Jefferson Fire Chief Jack Williams tells Raccoon Valley Radio the Jefferson and Grand Junction fire departments responded to the field fire at 12:39pm in the 1800 block of 250th Street. Williams says the suspected cause of the fire was from farm machinery harvesting corn, causing some of the corn to catch on fire. He notes that no one was injured, there was no damage to the farm machinery and several acres of corn was lost in the incident.

Since the fire was in the middle of a field, Williams notes they used water from the responding trucks and had to rotate each vehicle twice to refill on their water supply.
