It’s a week of Postseason athletics for the teams from Greene County High School. Tonight, the Rams open Class 3A Region 2 volleyball inside the new gymnasium on the northwest side of Jefferson vs. Southeast Valley (Gowrie). The Jaguars and Rams met on Oct. 1, opening night for the new facility, with SEV winning two sets to none. The Rams are 7-18 on the season while the Jaguars are 6-14. The winner advances to the semifinals on Wednesday night in Humboldt.
Wednesday also is the day the Greene County cross-country teams go to the golf course at Winterset for Class 3A State Qualifying Meets. Action starts at 4 p.m. with the girls’ race followed by the boys. The Greene County girls have struggled in recent meets to field the minimum five runners for a team score. The Greene County boys have had one of their better seasons in some time, but haven’t faced a heavy dose of 3A teams and Wednesday’s meet will feature plenty of competition including three of the top 11 rated teams.
The second round of the high school football playoffs are on Friday of this week with Greene County at home with Clarinda in a Class 2A contest. The Rams won 49-0 last Friday in Jefferson vs. Red Oak in an opening round contest, while Clarinda defeated Shenandoah 55-20 in their first round game. Friday’s contest is a rematch of teams that met at Linduska Field on Oct. 2 in a game the Rams won 22-15 in overtime. Friday’s contest can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
