While the AC/GC football season ended a bit earlier than they would have liked, there’a a lot of promise heading into the offseason, like the “Thunder and Lighting” like backfield.

Just as we expected, junior fullback Gavin Cornelison was a punisher between the tackles all season long. The “Thunder” of the backfield led the team in rushing yards with 918 and 14 trips to paydirt. Cornelison set the single-season school record for rushing yards in 2019 as a sophomore with more than 1,100 yards on the ground.

What we did not expect as much heading into the season was the instant impact of junior runningback Charlie Crawford. While we’ve seen his athleticism on the football field, basketball court, track, and baseball diamond, he was left out of the starting lineup against Earlham. After scoring two long touchdowns on 11 carries with 140 yards to help the Chargers climb back into the game, he established himself as the “Lighting” in the backfield. Chuck ended the season with 655 yards, five scores, and averaged eight yards a carry.

This dynamic duo has one more offseason to prepare before their senior campaign next year.
