The Dallas County Secondary Roads Department is wrapping up their construction season.

According to Dallas County Engineer Al Miller, 78 miles of reshaping and resurfacing work has been completed, as well as six miles of ditching and 38 miles of shoulder rock work. Crews have also repaired or replaced 40 culverts throughout the County. Miller says his department has benefited from mother nature, “We’ve had really good weather this summer for construction. (There was) not a whole lot of rain days for us so we were able to be out there working a lot of the construction season. We had a pretty easy winter and spring, so we didn’t have to deal with frost boils, those kinds of things, that we’ve had to in the past. We also went through a spring without a lot of flooding. So that’s been a good thing for us. Hopefully, those kinds of things continue here, but we’ve got to be prepared for a more typical summer next year.”

Miller adds the only major project on their to-do list is a road-widening project on County Road R-16 north of Dallas Center, which they hope to have completed by the end of the month.
