The Greene County High School Senior Class Officers have made some changes to their typical Veterans Day presentation for tomorrow.
Senior Class Vice-President Lillian Muir tells Raccoon Valley Radio area veterans are invited to enjoy free doughnuts and coffee at Dunkers by Matt in Jefferson from 5-11:30am. She explains why they chose to go this route rather than the traditional in-person breakfast at the high school.
“We can’t have visitors and stuff at the school or preparing food for them. So instead, we thought it would be easier for them to be able to make the choice if they want to go in there and not all be together.”
Senior Class Secretary Joslyn Monthei says there will be a tribute video posted on the high school’s Facebook page and played in every high school classroom on Wednesday. The video includes veterans Phil Thompson and Jeff Lamoureux, both of Jefferson, a poem read by a student, along with a special student message about Veterans Day. Monthei notes that doing this kind of presentation will reach a wider audience.
“We feel as though this is the easiest way because of COVID to be spread out and displayed everywhere, not just in our school, where it’s not broadcasted on the Facebook. And this way, other people who wouldn’t usually be in our school watching us do this can watch it on Facebook as well.”
