While most traditional Veterans Day programs won’t be held in Guthrie County, residents should be mindful of some office closures, as well as a special event happening in Guthrie Center.

The Guthrie County Courthouse, Health Services Building, and Transfer Station will all be closed to observe Veterans Day tomorrow. Guthrie Center City Hall, Stuart City Hall, and the Mary J. Barnett Memorial Library in Guthrie Center will also be closed to observe the holiday. All post offices will be closed, as well as most banks.

While the Panorama and West Central Valley school districts don’t have public events scheduled, the Guthrie Center Elementary and Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center High School students and staff will honor area veterans with a new event. At 9 a.m. tomorrow participating veterans will travel in 6-8 vehicles and be escorted by the Guthrie Center Fire Department along a route from the American Legion Hall to the elementary school, then to the high school, and then downtown to State Street where the fire department will return to the fire station and the veterans will continue to the county freedom rock site for a private gathering. Residents and business owners are encouraged to head out to State Street with flags, streamers, and anything else to show their appreciation for veterans.
